History of SMK Sungai Tapang
SMK Sungai Tapang has been through a long and illustrious history, and witnessed by appropriate changes along with the development of contemporary education. The school was officially opened on January 5, 1981 as grade C mixed schools, with three classrooms transition and 119 pupils. The first principal of the school is Mr. Daniel Law. He is assisted by two teachers and a clerk. Initially, the school was located in Help Sam Hap Hin Primary School located at Bt 7, Jalan Penrissen, Kuching before moving to KM 13, Jalan Penrissen, Kuching on the 2nd of January 1982. The number of classes has been increased to 19 and the number of students increased to 643 people. The number of teachers were 29 people.
In 1986, the school was upgraded into a school grade of A. In addition, the school's administrative machinery has been reinforced with a line consisting of a principal administrator A 11, 3 Vice Principals and Supervisors Prom A 19. An increasing number of graduate teachers also become sponsors of energy this school. In line with these developments, two three-storey classroom block was completed in 1989, to meet the growing needs of the students. Now, the school is greatly developed. The number of teachers is about 115 people and the number of students reached 1982 people.
Tradition and culture which began with the introduction of the school motto, flag and insignia of the school in 1982 has been enriched by setting the vision and mission of the school in 2003. In that determination to pursue excellence in a balanced and harmonious, this school has been striving for all the staff and move the PTA to move in synergy to build an excellent work culture and environment conducive to teaching and learning.
As a school community with a background of a multi-ethnic and multicultural, the school is facing a great challenge to translate national education agenda to outstanding student excel intellectually, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. In fact, the school library which was destroyed on fire on June 17, 2005 was a very challenging allegations. However, with the good fighting spirit, team spirit strong bond, and which does not recognize the hard work frustrated and desperate, SMK Sungai Tapang successfully demonstrated excellence in administration, curriculum and co-curriculum, as well as capacity building. From a school that has a rather negative image in terms of student discipline one time, the school has managed to make the leap of infinity, the race favorite and students from other schools, especially as classes from Form 1 and Form 2.
